Introduction to Musicality
Every Friday we have music classes with our students, to learn and get to know a little more about her art and musical instruments.
Music is a fundamental component of capoeira. It was introduced as a way to trick slavers into believing that slaves were dancing and singing, when in fact they were also training blows to defend themselves. It determines the rhythm and style of the game that is played during the capoeira roda.
The music is composed of instruments and songs, the rhythm can vary according to the Toque de Capoeira from very slow (Angola) to very fast (São Bento Grande). Many songs are in the form of short stanzas interspersed with a chorus, while others come in the form of long narratives (litanies). Capoeira songs have the most varied subjects.
Capoeira Wheel
Once a month we gather all the academy students and friends from other groups in the region to participate in an open "wheel", where everyone gets to know each other and make friends on that day.
- Classes are every Friday from 6:30 am to 7:30 am
